About DFW Ham Expo

DFW Ham Expo was born out of the ashes of Ham-Com. Ham-Com was a much revered hamfest – the USA’s fourth largest – in the DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) area and had occurred yearly for almost 40 years. Until the Covid Pandemic of 2020. The Covid quarantine of 2020 caused Ham-Com to be canceled, which meant that multi-year contracts and facility deposits were lost. When the time came to start thinking about hamfest again, the Ham-Com organizers didn’t have the money or motivation to start again from scratch. Ham-Com was done.

Realizing that a tremendous void had been left in the area, Bob Story AF5RS, President of the Denton County Amateur Radio Association (DCARA) wanted to start a small hamfest in the area that might eventually grow to fill the void left by Ham-Com. In the inaugural year, the DFW Ham Expo attracted over 500 guests and proved that there was sufficient demand for a hamfest in the DFW area.
